Straight answers grounded in the Alberta OHS Act and OHS Code Part 27 — so you know exactly what your workplace needs.
Yes. Since the 2018 amendments to the Alberta OHS Act and OHS Code Part 27, every employer must have a written Harassment Prevention Plan and a written Violence Prevention Plan, and must ensure that all workers and supervisors are trained on both plans. Training must cover how to recognize harassment and violence, how to report it, how the employer will respond, and the specific control measures for that workplace.
Every worker and every supervisor at every Alberta workplace, regardless of industry or company size. The Act does not exempt small employers, office environments, or non-union workplaces. Supervisors have additional obligations around receiving complaints and taking corrective action, which this course covers.
Alberta OHS does not set a fixed expiry date, but the Code requires the prevention plans to be reviewed at least every 3 years, or sooner if there is an incident or a change in circumstances. Most Alberta employers and COR auditors treat refresher training on the same 3-year cycle, and require immediate re-training whenever the prevention plan is updated.

Yes. The course is delivered through BISTrainer, which is used by over 2 million workers across Canada and is accepted by the ACSA, AASP, Energy Safety Canada, and other COR Certifying Partners. Certificates include the worker's name, course, date, and a unique verification ID that auditors can confirm.
The course satisfies the training requirement, but the employer still must have workplace-specific written Harassment and Violence Prevention Plans that identify the site's own hazards, control measures, and reporting procedures. Training and a written plan are two separate obligations under Part 27 — you need both. We can help you build or review the plans; call 403.830.4382.
